An integrated platform for Guadua-bamboo cultivation and biochar carbon removal (CDR) — diversifying Suriname’s economy with sustainable materials, renewable energy, and durable, measurable carbon removal.
|
The site is built — Phase 1 is nearing completion.
This issue marks a turning point. Phase 1 — establishing the site and the infrastructure required to cultivate Guadua bamboo at scale — is nearing completion. The buildings stand, roads and utilities are in place, the 1 MW solar system is engineered and now being installed, the in-vitro laboratory is moving to handover, and the first planting begins next month. Below is where the project stands.

Phase 1 — the site is built
The first phase of the project — establishing the site and the infrastructure required to cultivate Guadua bamboo at scale — is now substantially complete. The following is in place on the ground: | • | Land — the first 500 hectares are secured and under management, with work under way to secure a further ~500 hectares — bringing total land under management toward 1,000 hectares next year. | | • | Access & roads — internal roads, drainage and culverts are built, including the pilot access road. | | • | Buildings — the management offices and in-vitro laboratory are erected and moving to handover; kitchen and bathroom fit-out is under way. | | • | Utilities — potable water, wastewater and septic systems, and electrical supply to the buildings, are installed. | | • | Energy — the 1 MW solar system is fully engineered, with installation now under way on site. | | • | In-vitro laboratory — the propagation lab is established and preparing Guadua planting stock. | | • | Surveys & assessments — the geotechnical investigation, LIDAR topographic survey and life-cycle assessment are complete. | | • | Environmental — the ESIA / environmental screening has been submitted. |
With the groundwork in place, the project now moves into planting and operations.

Natural springs on the land
While walking the site, the team discovered natural freshwater springs and creeks running through the forest. It is a welcome find: a clean, year-round water source strengthens the land for cultivation and irrigation, and underlines the ecological richness of the terrain we are stewarding.

The buildings: offices & in-vitro laboratory
The core buildings are complete. The management offices and the in-vitro laboratory are erected and moving to handover, with kitchen and bathroom fit-out now under way — the facilities that will anchor day-to-day operations on site. On site — the completed buildings, August 2026. On the ground The offices and in-vitro laboratory — exteriors and interiors, moving to handover.

Solar & energy
The 1 MW solar system is fully designed and engineered, installation on site is now under way, and the battery storage units have been delivered. Reliable on-site generation matters here: with the regional power supply under strain, building our own capacity strengthens both the project and the surrounding community. Battery storage delivered to site — ready for the 1 MW solar installation.

Planting begins next month
With the nursery and in-vitro laboratory now supplying stock, Guadua bamboo planting begins next month — the point at which the plantation programme moves from preparation into the ground.

First community outgrower trial
We have begun our first trial on community (outgrower) land, working alongside a local community to train residents in cultivating Guadua bamboo. It is an early but deliberate step toward shared livelihoods and skilled local employment around the project.

Certification pathway
We are advancing certification across four parallel tracks: | • | Biochar carbon removal — engaged with leading international carbon-removal certification bodies. | | • | ARR (reforestation) carbon — a dedicated pre-feasibility is under way. | | • | FSC — designing to Forest Stewardship Council forestry-certification standards. | | • | CBI — pursuing Climate Bonds Initiative certification. |
This work builds on a completed pre-feasibility study and life-cycle assessment, with the full feasibility study progressing.

A word from our founders
Two years ago, this was open land. Today the buildings stand, the laboratory is moving to handover, power and water are on site — and next month the first Guadua bamboo goes into the ground. Growing with our community
Building a stronger future also means creating space for young people to gain experience, exchange ideas and grow. This month we had the opportunity to work alongside students from NATIN, and to be part of their learning journey — and we are grateful for their enthusiasm, contribution and willingness to learn.
Working alongside NATIN students — a stronger tomorrow grows together.
Our updates are public — you are always welcome to follow along on LinkedIn and Facebook to see the work as it happens on the ground.
